Atletico lining up Lacazette to replace Man United-destined Griezmann
January has come and gone, but Transfer Talk is already monitoring the whispers ahead of all the summer moves. Check out the latest deals here.
Atletico want Lacazette to replace Griezmann
Atletico Madrid are lining up Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette as a replacement for Antoine Griezmann, according to the Telegraph, since Atleti's Griezmann is expected to join Manchester United at the end of the season.
The report suggests that the Spanish club have already told United they want to keep Griezmann for one more season as they prepare for the opening of their new stadium, but with an £85 million release clause in his contract, it may be out of their hands.
Lacazette, a close friend of Griezmann's, will be available for transfer in the summer, Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas confirmed, but the striker is reportedly valued at £60m.
The Telegraph also wrote that Liverpool and Tottenham are among the Premier League sides that covet Lacazette, a France international who has scored 21 goals in 22 Ligue 1 appearances for Lyon this campaign.
Guardiola keen to add serial winner Alves
Juventus right-back Dani Alves is an unexpected summer target for Manchester City, the Daily Mail claims, but the three-time Champions League winner would have to agree to a pay cut on his current £120,000-a-week salary.
Alves played under City manager Pep Guardiola with great success at Barcelona and is said to be keen on testing himself in the Premier League. But the 33-year-old doesn't fit the bill for a club trying to lower their average age, especially in defence.
However, having won 23 trophies in eight seasons, it is clear Alves is a natural winner and an extremely talented footballer, and he could bring something to the City squad.
Everton consider Rooney return
Everton are considering a summer bid for Wayne Rooney, writes the Daily Mirror, having failed to lure the Manchester United striker to Goodison Park in the January transfer window.
Rooney looks set to quit Old Trafford at the end of the season after playing a bit-part role under manager Jose Mourinho while the club lines up new signings in his position. According to the report, the 31-year-old could return to his boyhood club rather than make a more lucrative move to the Chinese Super League.
Staying in the Premier League would offer Rooney a higher standard of football in the coming years, but would also likely mean a significant pay cut on his £300,000-a-week contract at United.
Tap-ins
-- Manchester City and Chelsea will try to take advantage of a disagreement between Juventus centre-back Leonardo Bonucci and coach Massimiliano Allegri by bidding to sign the 29-year-old in a world-record deal for a defender, the Independent claims. Both sides were interested in the Italy international last summer but failed to entice him. However, they will try again amid uncertainty at Juve about Allegri's future.
-- Chelsea will make another attempt to sign Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon in the summer since Asmir Begovic is expected to leave in search of regular football. The London Evening Standard reports that Celtic hoped Gordon would sign a new contract, but the 34-year-old is interested in returning to the Premier League, even as a No. 2.
-- While Rooney is set to stay put, one Manchester United player who could yet move to the Chinese Super League before their transfer deadline closes on Tuesday is Ashley Young. The Daily Mail reckons Shandong Luneng will offer £10m for the 31-year-old, who has 18 months left on his current contract
